In the city center of Sevilla, Spain, is constructed of the Incarnation Metropol Parasol, winning proposal Jürgen Mayer for urban renewal in the Plaza de la Encarnación, contest organized by the Planning Department of the City of Sevilla in 2003 . The assignment involved the reactivation of the square, according to the unstructured, unreadable council despite being in the center of the historic center of Seville. Requested the connection between north and south of downtown, the replacement of the old market was demolished in the 70 that since that time works in a temporary building, the integration of archaeological remains found in excavations and resolve the current point using public transport interchange, incorporating a planned subway station in the square.
Jürgen Mayer's answer is to remodel the plaza at various levels: at level -1, the Archaeological Museum, near the Roman ruins found during excavations in the ground level facilities to the existing market, +1 level, an elevated plaza, connected by stairs to street level, which "meets the need of a large urban site and multi-purpose meeting in the center of Seville" finally with 30 meters high, the actual Parasol consisting in 6 columns covering the square, supporting a deck floor contains a restaurant and a walk in the upper air, gazebo over the city.
This proposal was winning Bronze in Holcim Awards 2005.
